Vallini's Secret

I have been reading Vallini's journals and found this information and thought you might want it for your investigation. It appears she has been hiding a secret from Sir Grimm for quite a while. This information is from their trip to Scarlet Creek.

Lamar Grimm

April 26, 1444

Today, I find myself overwhelmed with conflicting emotions. As I prepare to depart from the safety of the town, I can't help but feel a pang of guilt for deceiving Sir Grimm and the others. They know not of the true nature that resides within me, the curse that transforms me into a creature of the night. I carry this secret burden alone, fearful of the consequences if my true identity were to be revealed.

I have spun tales of investigating cattle mutilations, creating a facade of purpose to mask my true intentions. In reality, I seek solitude and seclusion, a place where my uncontrollable beast can roam without endangering the lives of innocent souls. It is a desperate strategy, but the only one I have found to offer some semblance of control during the night of the full moon.

Tomorrow marks that fateful night, when the moon reaches its fullest form. I have chosen a cattle farm on the outskirts of town, where the presence of small, vulnerable calves offers an alternative prey for my untamed self. It is my hope that my inner beast will find solace in their easy catch, sparing the lives of human beings who know not the horrors that lurk beneath the surface.

Though the transformation brings forth a terror I cannot fully describe, there is a twisted comfort in knowing that I can safeguard the lives of those I care for, even if it means sacrificing my own humanity for a brief, agonizing moment. It is a heavy burden to bear, the weight of these nocturnal afflictions, but I must endure for the greater good.

The night has passed, and I emerge from the shadows, the moon's luminous glow waning in the early morning sky. The transformation has come and gone, a blur of instinctual frenzy and savage hunger. My memories are fragmented, my recollection hazy at best. Yet, as I survey the aftermath, I breathe a sigh of relief.

The calves, innocent creatures that they were, have fallen victim to my cursed existence. Though I bear the guilt of their lives lost, I am grateful that no human blood stains my hands. I may have been unable to control my feral nature entirely, but my calculated plan has once again served its purpose.

I return to the town now, my true self hidden behind a veil of normalcy. Sir Grimm, my dear friend and confidant, remains unaware of the dark secret that lingers within my being. I must guard this secret fiercely, for the repercussions of discovery would be catastrophic.

The curse that afflicts me weighs heavily on my soul, yet I persevere, driven by a determination to protect those around me. The next full moon approaches, and with it, the cycle begins anew. I can only hope that my calculated tactics will continue to guide me, ensuring the safety of innocent lives, even as I grapple with my own inner demons.

Until the next entry, may the light shine upon my path and grant me the strength to bear this burden.
